It began in 2004 with the chartering of the Freedom Central Railroad. For the next couple years, things didn't change as the railroad hauled stone for its only customer, however things would soon turn and the company knew it had to change with the times or face extinction like so many other railroads before it. By 2014, the diminuative 4.5mile shortline had expanded both its focus as well as its skills. In 2018, the railroad spun off all its ancilary projects and ventures into companies of their own and also sold itself to the new parent company.
Today, Freedom Central Corporation (FCCorp.US) is a multi-state regional railroad that maintains its equipment and infrastructure to the highest levels, and uses what it can from its larger Class 1 brethren while retaining its original agile and nimble startup-attitude. As a result the corporate umbrella includes eight different railroads and twenty-two additional non-railroad companies that support the rail business or expand its ability to provide the absolute best service to its customers.
